Dr. Tanya, tell us about your
professional background and the journey till here?
I am working as a counseling psychologist since 2013. I have 9
years of professional experience in this field. Currently, I am running my own counseling
center “Shubhkamna Counseling and Life-skills Training Centre”. I am also associated
with various online and offline counseling platforms. I have a lifetime
membership of BCPA, CCI, and CSC.
My journey as a counselor started working with students of an
Intercollege where I offered my counseling services free of cost. Then I
offered my free counseling services at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law
University.
I am the first counseling psychologist in Uttar Pradesh who has offered
stress management and anger management classes at Security Headquarter for the
very first time. Counseling is my passion and my main motive is to remove the
stigma related to mental health from society.
Now, I am offering my services as a counseling psychologist at
Shri Ramswaroop Memorial Group of Professional Colleges. This is the first
institute of engineering and management that is going to offer the facility of
psychological counseling to students, staff, and faculty members. In this
respect, I am the first counseling psychologist who is going to offer her services
in this position.
During this journey, I faced quite a several obstacles in
creating awareness among people. Most people have a misconception that
“I am not a mentally ill person, I don’t need counseling.”
Why did you choose
your profession as a counseling psychologist?
The main aim
of my life is to achieve this goal of spreading awareness about mental health
in society and to bring smiles to sad faces. I think that God has sent me
in this world to reduce the suffering of mankind. That’s why I selected counseling
as my profession.
How did Shubhkamna come into existence and the vision behind it?
The "Shubhkamna counseling and Life-skills Training Centre" came into existence in September 2018. The aim of "Shubhkamna" is to offer different types of counseling services in one place. We offer individual/group counseling sessions, relationship counseling, child counseling, stress management, anger management, life-skills training, career guidance, career coaching, and parental coaching to name a few.
Its motto is "Happiness Unlimited". After two years of the establishment of "Shubhkamna", I am happy to share that I am successfully performing my counseling services. The clients are sharing their positive feedback with me about their counseling experiences.
Why do you think, in the times of Corona, your professional
services are required more than ever before?
Yes, undoubtedly I have realized that
the role of counselors was and is important during the corona pandemic. That is why,
I have offered my free counseling services to the frontline workers, a family of
the corona sufferers, and the corona patients as well.
I felt myself the richest person in the whole world because I
have got their precious and priceless blessings that could not be earned by
money. I have started my youtube channel to spread awareness regarding CORONA
and to make people mentally strong to face the challenges during this difficult
time. I am feeling happy to share that people appreciated my efforts.
Any Professional milestone you have achieved that has made a difference in your career growth?
I have earned my Ph.D. degree in Child and Adolescent Psychology
from Lucknow University. I have also done GB certification in career counseling
from the University, Singapore GCC Certification from the University of California, Los
Angeles.
I have got Mahatma Gandhi Global Peace Award, 2020, Star India
Super Women Award, 2020, International Award of Outstanding Life-skills
Coaching, 2021.
All these degrees can be considered as a milestone for me that
has made difference in my career growth.
Any suggestions you want to give to the new entrants in your
field of the profession?
Yes, please select this noble profession of counseling only if
you have a real passion to bring positive change into the life of others. Be
honest about your profession.
This profession should not be selected only to earn money. Money
can be earned through various professions but the main aim of counseling
should be to help others emphatically.
Where do you want to
see yourself in the next 5 years from now?
I want to see
myself as a successful motivational speaker, career counselor, and counseling
psychologist in the next 5 years from now. I want to make a big positive change
in our society.
I aim to
remove the stigma related to mental health in society and I truly believe that
very soon people will treat counselors as real heroes. They will also receive
that genuine respect that they deserve.
